Buzz Rickson's BR15345 N-1 "Navy Department Demotex-Ed " Jacket Khaki
The Buzz Rickson's BR15345 N-1 Deck Jacket is a meticulous reproduction of one of the most iconic garments ever issued by the U.S. Navy. Originally developed in the early 1940s for ship crews operating in harsh maritime conditions, the N-1 became a standard-issue piece of cold-weather outerwear aboard naval vessels. This version is based on original examples supplied under the "Demotex-Ed" Naval Clothing Depot contract.
Introduced in 1945, the khaki N-1 succeeded the earlier navy blue model. While the overall silhouette remained unchanged, several functional refinements were made: the removal of alpaca lining at the inner cuffs, simplified internal construction, enlarged drawstring eyelets, and repositioned ventilation points — all faithfully replicated here by Buzz Rickson's.
The outer shell is made from 100% cotton jungle cloth, a tightly woven grosgrain fabric originally engineered for wind resistance and water repellency. Dense and durable, the fabric naturally blocks cold air and sheds moisture, making it ideal for exposed deck conditions. Over time, it develops a rich patina that deepens the jacket's vintage character without compromising its structure.
The interior is fully lined with a warm alpaca and wool pile blend (40% wool / 35% alpaca / 25% cotton). This lining delivers excellent insulation by trapping warm air close to the body while remaining breathable — and critically, it retains warmth even when damp, a feature essential to its original naval function.
Construction follows true military specifications throughout. The jacket features a MIL-SPEC brass zipper, urea buttons, reinforced stitching, and a bold "U.S. NAVY" chest stencil applied with period-correct finishing designed to fade naturally with wear. Wool knit cuffs seal out the cold, while a drawstring hem allows for adjustable fit and improved heat retention.
The silhouette is a straight, regular fit, true to original military proportions — functional, clean, and easy to layer over mid-weight garments.
Fit Notes: This jacket fits true to size. Compared to most global American brands, a size 42 fits similarly to a standard Large. We recommend taking your usual size for a comfortable fit. As a reference, we strongly recommend checking our size chart and comparing it with your best-fitting jacket to ensure the right fit.
