ONI Denim 01507L "Ishikawadai" 15oz Type Ⅰ Jacket
The ONI Denim 01507L “Ishikawadai” Type I Jacket is a refined reinterpretation of one of denim’s most iconic silhouettes, combining historical inspiration with modern proportions and exceptional Japanese craftsmanship.
At the core of this jacket lies ONI’s Ishikawadai denim, produced using a rare 1953 Ishikawadai spinning machine. This vintage machine operates at a much slower speed than modern equipment, placing minimal stress on the cotton fibers and resulting in yarns with a naturally irregular, hand-spun character. The fabric displays subtle variations and depth, offering a more organic and refined texture compared to standard denim.
The yarns are spun using this traditional method and woven on 1950s shuttle looms, creating a 15oz selvedge denim that balances structure, softness, and long-term durability. The warp is dyed using ONI’s secret indigo formula, producing a distinctive greencast indigo tone that evolves beautifully with wear, developing rich fades and character over time.
This model features a modified Type I silhouette, retaining key heritage elements while updating the proportions for contemporary wear. The jacket is cut with a boxy body and elongated length, offering a more relaxed and wearable fit compared to traditional Type I jackets, which are typically shorter and more compact.
Classic details such as the single chest pocket, front pleats, and cinch back adjusters preserve the vintage DNA, while the updated cut makes it easier to style in a modern wardrobe—perfect over a tee, flannel, or lightweight knit.
Fit Notes: This model fits true to size for Oni and most Japanese brands. Compared to most global American brands, a size 42 fits similarly to a Large. As always, we strongly recommend checking our size chart and comparing it with your best-fitting jacket to find the perfect size. The fabric is unsanforized but has been one-washed, so no shrinkage is expected.
